AVELLUM advises Ministry of Finance of Ukraine on sovereign loan from Canada

AVELLUM acted as the Ukrainian legal counsel to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine in connection with a CAD2 billion 10-year concessional loan from Canada. The funds were provided through the mechanism of the Administrated Account of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and will be directed towards Ukraine’s priority social and economic needs.

The loan brings Canada’s total direct loan assistance to the Ukrainian budget to CAD6.85 billion since February 2022.

Glib Bondar, Senior Partner at AVELLUM, noted, “Canada remains a trusted partner of Ukraine and this transaction was made possible due to smooth and efficient cooperation with the Canadian side. This financing continues a series of similar transactions successfully accomplished in 2022 and 2023. We appreciate vital support from Ukraine’s international partners in North America and Europe, which is key to stabilise Ukraine’s macroeconomic situation and maintain the financial system stability during these challenging war years.”

Senior Partner Glib Bondar led the AVELLUM team with significant support from associates Yaroslav Pavliuk, Andrii Kroshko, and Olha Harhola.
