Counsel

Roman Syniuta is a Counsel at AVELLUM’s dispute resolution practice, primarily focusing on international arbitration, including international commercial and investment arbitration, and cross-border litigation.

Roman regularly advises and represents international and Ukrainian clients in high-profile arbitrations under the Rules of the ICC, LCIA, ICSID, UNCITRAL, SCC, ICAC under EAC, CAMC and ICAC at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He also advises clients on cross-border litigations involving jurisdictions such as the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Netherlands, Spain, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Belgium, Vietnam and Ukraine. Roman regularly participates in preparing of expert opinions for foreign courts and arbitral tribunals on the application of Ukrainian law. His experience also includes advising clients on structuring high-risk investments with considerable risk of disputes.

      Represented Ukraine in a USD3.2 billion investment treaty arbitration under the SCC Arbitration Rules arising out of alleged investments into a significant Ukrainian bank

      Represented Respondent in a USD4.6 billion investment treaty arbitration under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules arising out of alleged investments into a major Ukrainian aerospace company

      Represented a primary Ukrainian agricultural business in an LCIA arbitration arising out of a failed investment project and advised the client with respect to Cypriot and Ukrainian injunction proceedings

      Advised an Australia-based graphite producer and gold exploration company in relation to potential LCIA arbitration over an alleged breach of the SPA

      Represented a buyer of the business in post-M&A arbitration under the rules of ICAC under EAC *

      Represented an owner of the business against his nominee in a CAMC arbitration *

      Prepared expert report on the procedural matters of Ukrainian law for a case heard before the High Court of Justice

      Advised a beneficial business owner in multiple proceedings against a nominee brought before courts in three jurisdictions *

      Advised a shareholder in a complex dispute against his former partners in several European countries *

      Advised a major diversified group of companies on litigations of its Ukrainian subsidiaries *

      Represented foreign investor in the bankruptcy of a major Ukrainian company *

      Prepared expert reports on Ukrainian law for cases heard before the High Court of Justice *

      Advised client on a dispute regarding investment fraud in Spain *

      Advised client on a dispute regarding investment fraud in the US *

      Advised client on shareholders’ dispute in Cyprus *

      Represented an Italian company in a dispute against a Ukrainian supplier *

      Advised client on a case on extradition from Cyprus to Ukraine *

      Advised on and implemented a settlement agreement in a complex dispute involving offshore and onshore entities and nationals of different jurisdictions *
